Pedro

Pedro dressed up for my wedding.
What do you get when you cross a man with too much time on his hands and a few thousand rubberbands ? ? ?
It all started my freshman year of college. Maybe it was ambition, maybe it was peer pressure, but whatever it was, Pedro was the result. Over 35,000 rubberbands later, here's a little information about my creation.

News: Ooh, look! A new picture!
Pedro is now 128 pounds.

Well, I recently got married. Everyone dressed up, even Pedro (see above). Oh, and that other person is my wonderful wife, Maurya.

Alliance Rubber Company has continued to amaze me. They have now donated over 120 pounds to Pedro. Thank you very much!

You can read some "historical documents" (most people call them fictional stories) about Pedro I have found (written) over the years.
The first story tells of the terror he wreaked upon his creator and the surrounding towns.
The second set of documents answer the question of what happened to the lost colony of Roanoke.

apx. 35,299 bands.
Here's how I figure that. I add the "Counted Rubberbands" to the estimated 2,377 bands. (2,337+25,634=27,971)
However, I used a lot of smaller rubberbands at first, and now I'm using a lot of bigger ones, so I don't have an exact number.

Pedro was started in early 1998, making him almost (you do the math) years old.

For my wedding, I 'dressed' Pedro in a tuxedo, using only rubberbands. He's wearing a black jacket, with a purple shirt, black tie and two buttons.

Pedro got his first kiss on 12/29/01 from Mollie's little cousin, Sydney.

States Pedro has lived in: Illinois, Iowa, Missouri.

States Pedro has visited: Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia

Pedro has been used as a musical instrument. He was a drum at house church.

Yes, he does bounce. When dropped, Pedro gets about 2/3 of his height back. If I drop him from my head, he bounces to my sternum. (Old fact. Current testing limited by size.)

Pedro always wears his seatbelt when traveling in the car. Of course, this is more for my safety than for his.

Rubberbands!!!! Why would I settle for anything else? "How did I do that?" you ask. I started by wraping a rubberband around two fingers, then rolling it off. This makes a small knot. Then I wrapped other rubberbands around it until . . . well, you read the stats.
Where do I get bands?

All of my rubberbands are either found or donated. The Coe College post office gave me a great start. Alliance Rubber has also been great. Most of Pedro has been donated by them (Thank you.)
The rules are this: Donated or found. No buying rubberbands(*). That way it's a challenge.
Of course, that's also why I made this web page. This is my plea for help. Even one rubberband would be appreciated. Please help create something beautiful (and large!!!).

(*)There has been a precedent set, allowing me to pay shipping for bands sent to me (See Megaball), but so far I haven't had to.
